We Miss, LIZ!

I've had quite a few people ask me where Liz has been.  They haven't received a phone call or email from her.  Paul hasn't gotten to talk sports with her during our Wednesday night meetings.  And her stellar blog posts have been M.I.A.  ..... Sigh.

Liz has been busy (just like the rest of us gals - cough, cough, hence why we've been lacking in the blogs) with her own big gig.  She is heading up one of the BIGGEST events UNC Charlotte sees every year and in between her lack of sleep and school work, she hasn't had time for the blog world.

So, of course, we crash bombed her workshop to say hello.  And so we could post an embarassing picture of her.

Everyone say, "Hi, Liz!!!"

PS - Come back soon, we miss you.

PPS - Sorry again for our blogging lack.  I promise our brides and grooms appreciate our dedication to them as opposed to our blogs! =)

Falling in Love.

Ok - so we all know Ava loves summer. Well... let's go ahead and put it out there, Jenny loves fall. I LOVE it! I mean don't get me wrong, come talk to me mid January and summer time sounds super sweet. But I truly believe nothing, NOTHING beats fall. Football, fire pits, boots, scarfs, whiskey by the fire. Gahhhh I love it. So while we all turn our AC way to high and take turns lounging by the pool.   I have just a few fall dreams.

Work it Out.

If you are anything like me then the Olympic games are inspiring you and motivating you...... to work out. Nothing makes you slap the doughnut out of your hand like watching rock hard abs and cut biceps. So in lieu  of this display of bodily beauty I thought I would share this awesome drinking workout game I found so while you are watching the Olympics you can get your own chiseled six pack. You just probably shouldn't be drinking a six pack while you do it ;)

Happy Tuesday!

Bar Party.

It's a fact that we like a good party here at Mean Party. It's also a fact that I have a slight obsession appreciation for anything vintage inspired.

One of my favorite ways to combine the two is with a good vintage inspired bar cart. My husband and I have one in our own home that we inherited from his parents and I absolutely love it. I can't stop my bar cart envy every where I turn. Such a great mix of classy, vintage, party style. So pour a martini and enjoy!

Songs for My Heart

Here's a little fact about me - I love music... a lot.  In fact, if you ever are in the car with me for any amount of time, you'll know how much I like to put on concerts for myself.

While watching So You Think You Can Dance, I heard the sweetest little love song.  I hope to be in love like this one day!  If you're looking for a great first dance song OR if you're just in the mood to feel a little sappy today, enjoy!  =)

Sleeping At Last - Turning Page

I’ve waited a hundred years
But I’d wait a million more for you
Nothing prepared me for
What the privilege of being yours would do

If I had only felt the warmth within your touch
If I had only seen how you smile when you blush
Or how you curl your lip when you concentrate enough
Well I would have known
What I was living for all along
What I’ve been living for

Your love is my turning page
Where only the sweetest words remain
Every kiss is a cursive line
Every touch is a redefining phrase

I surrender who I’ve been for who you are
For nothing makes me stronger than your fragile heart
If I had only felt how it feels to be yours
Well I would have known
What I’ve been living for all along
What I’ve been living for

Though we’re tethered, to the story we must tell
When I saw you, well I knew we’d tell it well
With the whisper, we will tame the vicious scenes
Like a feather, bringing kingdoms to their knees

Mean PARTY, not GIRLS!

We’re approaching 20 days since the launch of our fabulous new name - MEAN PARTY. Since the name change I’ve come across many fans, but one person threw me for a loop when she tried to make sense of the title. Her words were, “Oh Mean Party? That’s cute! Like Mean Girls!” WRONG.
Source
Although we share one word with the popular teen movie, we are far from similar. Let’s explore the differences.

In Roger Ebert’s review he describes the “mean girls” as “The three most popular girls in the junior class are the Plastics, so-called because they bear an uncanny resemblance to Barbie.” Barbie is a great description of the characters in the movie, but if used to describe the women of Mean Party it is nothing but an antonym. Need proof? Check their personal blogs.

Take Jenny who is slightly addicted with thrift store shopping – which is one place you’ll never find a plastic, expensive name brand obsessing Barbie. Her Wednesday blog reveals a typical outfit she sports to the grocery store. Sure, she’s rocking sunglasses with the high end name of Michael Kors but instead of completing the outfit with Kors’s competitors she looks better than a Barbie in a TJ Maxx top, thrift bottoms and jewelry. Allow me to steal a quote from the movie because I think Jenny’s non-Barbie style is “SO FETCH!”

Then there’s Ava who may have the beautiful blonde hair to rival Barbie but in all other aspects is the opposite.  Her blog shows her outfit from an “epic Saturday”. Thrift clutch (thanks Jenny!) + Target dress (a store Ava openly admits an obsession) + Off Broadway shoes (just about every item is a steal!). What does that equal? Looking fabulous without being a Barbie.

If their personal blogs aren’t enough to show we’re the opposite of the snobby teens, consider Urban Dictionary.  Look-up “mean” and it gives different definitions for the word.

1.  “To be cruel, spiteful, and malicious. To be ill tempered disagreeable, difficult and troublesome.” - Perfect definition for Mean Girls.

2. “To describe something as exceptionally good or “cool”." - Well hello definition for the “mean” in Mean Party!

We’re not mean girls. Don’t get me wrong. I like the movie, actually just watched it last weekend with my girls so it is fresh in my mind. What I took away from the movie is - Mean Girls obsess over making sure their wearing at least $300 on them at all times. Mean Party obsesses over thrift stores and Target. The mean girl’s daily meeting at the lunch table is consumed with gossip. Gossip at a Mean Party meeting? HA! I would love for someone to find time for that in our agenda.

The list could go on and on but I’ll spare you. Just remember. We’re Mean PARTY, not girls.

Happy Tuesday!

Although amusing, this mindset is TERRIBLE. Sure, Friday-Sunday is work-free and party time but remember our motto – Life (aka everyday) is a MEAN party. Work your butt off today, impress your supervisor or conquer a big to-do off your list, then have some fun. Allow me to offer three reasons Tuesdays in the Queen City aren’t THAT bad.

Source

1. $3 PINTS at Kennedy’s. Pint of Sweetwater to get my summer fix of the day? Don’t mind if I do!

Source
2. Half priced wine at Strike City. Bowling and cheap wine? Count me in!

3. Half off appetizers and drafts at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille. Cheap food and beer after a long day? Again, I’m down!

Maybe Tuesdays aren't the weekend, but the Charlotte area has plenty to offer. So stop whining, get up and enjoy the party of life everyday!

Get Organized!

Hello Party People!

Happy Happy Monday to you!

I don't know about you, but as I see summers end coming over the horizon, I start to stress about the beginning of the "school year".

No, I am not still in school.

No, I don't have kids.

But, I guess the end of summer and "freedom" is so drilled in my head, I see it coming like a freight train.

The difference between now and the olden days is that I'm not shopping for school supplies with my Mom or trying to find just the right Trapper Keeper or key chain to hang from my book bag. But as that was always one of my favorite parts of school starting {probably the shopping addict in me} I relish finding ways to enjoy that now.

One of my FAVORITE school supplies is a scheduler or planner. And there is something just so fantastic about  the internet that there are so many great free, CUTE!, and printable options out there.
Here are a few that make me want to press print, hole punch them and highlight projects {or boys I have crushes on} in my Lisa Frank binder ;).

{gives you the option of adding in your weekly goals - perfect, find it here!}

{cute, funky great graphics, find it here!}

{organized, clear, clean, love it! find it here!}

{simple, bright colors, lots of room to doodle, find it here!}

{love the dinner and blog planning options on this one,
 you stay organized in every area!  find it here!}

So if you're anything like me print one or all of them out, place in them a pretty organized notebook. Buy some colored pens, and make your to-do list visible.

Or just pour yourself a margarita and pretend summer isn't even close to being over. Either way will do!

XOXO!

Inspiration

While I'm sitting at home not at all being a loser watching One Tree Hill (yes, One Tree Hill, don't judge me) I heard a pretty fantastic quote.  Hope you guys appreciate it too.

"So, I’ve been thinking about this whole being happy thing, and I feel like people get lost when they think of happiness as a destination...We’re always thinking that someday we’ll be happy; we’ll get that car or that job or that person in our lives that’ll fix everything. But happiness is a mood, and it’s a condition, not a destination. It’s like being tired or hungry, it’s not permanent. It comes and goes, and that’s okay. And I feel like if people thought of it that way, they’d find happiness a lot more often." Julian, Season 8.

Moody Music

Being the party enthusiasts that we are, I have to share the latest party tool I’ve come across. On the weekends there are different moods for every social gathering. Whether it’s a chill night with the girls and cocktails, pre-gaming for the night ahead, or you’re throwing a blow-out bash, a different mood fills all of these situations. Music also must fill the air. Lucky for us party-goers there is a new app from Apple that allows users to choose music based off their mood.

Similar to Pandora Radio, Songza plays continuous music based off of the day, time and mood you tell it to play. You’re not limited to a single artist or genre! It’s a perfect app for any activity, at any day and time. This past weekend I told Songza it was a Saturday afternoon and I was in a summertime mood. I was delighted with their “Lazy Summer” station. Later that night I played “Crowd Pleasing Dance Pop” while getting ready and pre-gaming with my girls before going out. So trust me, this weekend buy the free app and enjoy the tunes.

For now try one of the Tuesday Morning stations and enjoy!
